Public Service Announcement
For our project my team, Jennifer Tena, Manuel Lopez and myself, did a photo public service announcement. The biggest problem organizing the video was the actual plot of the story. At first we did not all agree in the plot of the story because Jennifer and I wanted something simple but Manuel wanted a true love story. There were lots of rough ideas till we derived into the love story presented.
In order to convey our audience we chose to pick a common scenario within our topic. Our topic was contraceptives with Plan B and we went back to high school to see what the most common scenarios were. We thought of the young love going into having sexual relationships and having the inevitable pregnancy scare. It not only happens to high school students but Plan B is aimed for your young teenage girls to not get pregnant and continue their education.
Throughout the year my team had been choosing the topic of Manuel of the unconstitutional laws where your phone is being monitored by the NSA. For this project we chose Jennifer's topic on Plan B simply because we wanted a change and we thought it would be easier to put a video together for Plan B than someone monitoring a phone call. We chose the pregnancy scare because we all agreed that was the most common heard thing in High School.
The most challenging part of the video was actually putting it together and editing. The video needed to be a minute long and be able to tell a story. When putting in the words in Windows video it changes the format of the pictures and changes the time. This was challenging for me because I am not really that good at using computers. I do have to say though that the video was cute and precise for a cliché love story.
The systematic approach was to tell a love story and see how it was conquered by Plan B. Also the idea of the short love story was by the movie "UP" where there is a love story within the first three minutes of the movie. The twist in our love story was that we wanted to put something that not always happens. In the video we made the girl have a miscarriage which is something common a young girl can have if they use the after pill even though the simple pregnancy test will test positive. We hoped that after seeing this announcement, teenagers, will be more cautious of their actions before they make a choice they might not be ready for.
The most effective aspect in our Public announcement is that it shows the common scenario youth follows as a love story, and how the couple ends up having a baby, although in the video it shown as the couple having a miscarriage where this not always happens. The design was to make the setting be as romantic as possible putting a love song and the plot how the boy meets the girl. The plot and design was effective because it showed how couples usually meet and how it becomes a love story.
The design decisions were made to appeal to the audience as a love story. It had to be in a romantic setting with a love song in the background. The design for the photos to be following had to be something that could show smooth transitions from one picture to another. When the words were added those needed to be showable and readable in the moment when the picture appeared. Adding the words was harder because the picture could not be there too long and they had to relate to what the picture was showing. I took it as a snapchat for the picture to be shown long enough for the audience to find the words and read them. Also when the video was flowing with the pictures it needed to be professional and appealing to the eye, therefore I used a setting for it to sparkle.
